Electrical questions, answered.
Short, contractor-side answers on licensing, diagnosis, method, testing and the standards we work to. If your question is not here, send it through the contact form.
When do I legally need a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) in Singapore?
Any new wiring, rewiring, extension to an existing installation, or modification of a distribution board must be carried out or supervised by a Licensed Electrical Worker registered with the Energy Market Authority (EMA). Plug-and-play replacement of a like-for-like accessory — a light switch, light fitting or socket faceplate on existing wiring — is usually not licensed work. You can verify any LEW via the EMA ELISE portal.
What should I do when my power trips and resetting the MCB does not hold?
Stop resetting the breaker repeatedly — that is a sign there is a real fault, not a nuisance trip. Switch off all appliances on the affected circuit, then try resetting once. If it still trips, the circuit has an insulation fault, an earth fault or a faulty appliance on it. Call a licensed electrician for a Megger insulation test and earth-loop impedance check before reconnecting load.
Do you replace and upgrade the distribution board (DB)?
Yes. We replace old DBs with new ones fitted with proper MCBs and RCBO / RCCB devices, re-balance the phases for landed properties, and label every circuit clearly. RCCB / RCBO is required for socket-outlet circuits under SS 638. Any DB modification or replacement is licensed work and is endorsed by an LEW.
Can you handle a complete apartment rewiring?
Yes — full rewiring of an HDB flat, condo unit or landed home, including new DB, all sub-circuits, sockets, lighting and ceiling fan points, water heater and aircon isolators, and final commissioning tests. Carried out under LEW supervision with insulation resistance, earth-loop and polarity test records at handover.
Do you handle commercial fit-out electrical works?
Yes — F&B, retail and office fit-outs. Coverage includes sub-DB design, lighting circuits, power for fit-out equipment, kitchen exhaust and motor circuits, CCTV / data cabling coordination with the ID team, motion sensors, auto gates and emergency lighting. Documentation includes single-line diagram, cable schedules and LEW-endorsed test records.
Do you do sports court and stadium lighting?
Yes — tennis, badminton, basketball, futsal and multi-purpose court lighting. We size the pole height and luminaire arrangement to the playing surface, target uniformity per court class, and supply driver, controls and cabling. Lighting design references the relevant Singapore Standards and sport-specific guidance.
Can you provide temporary power for events and exhibitions?
Yes — event and exhibition power, including generator hook-up, temporary distribution boards, cable management and stand-by power planning. We coordinate the supply with the venue operator, size the distribution to the actual load schedule, and bond and earth the temporary installation properly.
Do you handle 24-hour electrical emergencies?
Yes — emergency call-outs for total power loss, repeated tripping that will not hold, smell of burning from a socket or DB, water-damaged electrical equipment and similar safety-critical faults. Phone and WhatsApp are the fastest channels for after-hours work.
Do you provide a warranty?
Yes. Warranty terms depend on the scope — new wiring, DB replacement, light fitting installation and supplied equipment each carry their own warranty period and exclusions. The exact warranty is in the quote, not advertised as a blanket figure. Equipment warranty (e.g. RCBOs, water heaters, fans) follows the manufacturer terms.
Which standards do you work to?
SS 638:2018 Code of Practice for Electrical Installations, EMA Electricity Act and licensing framework, SCDF requirements for emergency lighting and fire alarm interfacing, and BCA / HDB requirements where the works fall within their jurisdiction.
