Electrical Troubleshooting & Power Trip
A tripping breaker is a symptom, not a fault. We diagnose the actual fault — earth leakage, overload, short circuit, nuisance trip or a failing appliance — before any wiring is opened or replaced. That keeps the scope honest and the cost defensible.
Common works under this service
- Power trip and power failure investigation
- Earth-leakage and RCD nuisance-trip diagnosis
- Overload and short-circuit fault tracing
- Distribution board inspection and thermal imaging where relevant
- Appliance vs. fixed-wiring isolation testing
- Insulation resistance testing of suspect circuits
- Emergency / after-hours electrician call-out

Symptom interview
We start by asking the owner the right question — when does it trip, what was running, does it trip at switch-on or after some time. Half of all power trip jobs are solved at this step before the screwdriver comes out.
DB inspection
Visual and thermal check of the distribution board. Loose terminations, scorch marks at MCB lugs and a tripping pattern across phases narrow down the fault.
Circuit isolation and IR test
Each suspect circuit is isolated and insulation resistance tested. A failing IR reading points at a faulty appliance, a damaged cable, or water ingress at a fitting.
Repair or rewiring scope
Where the fault is a single fitting, appliance or termination, we repair on the spot. Where the fault is a circuit-wide insulation problem, we recommend rewiring that circuit only — not the whole flat. The scope follows the test result, not a guess.
Materials and devices we use
- Multimeter, insulation resistance tester (megger), clamp meter
- Loop impedance and RCD trip-time tester
- Plug-in earth-leakage detector
- Thermal imager for DB hotspot scan (where requested)
Deliverables to the client
- Diagnosis report (typed summary or written-on-site)
- IR test readings for tested circuits
- Photo of any defective fitting or termination found
- Recommended remedial scope with itemised quotation
